    2 collar tabs for greatcoat model 1935 with hand-sewn numbers and specialty insignias: Chasseur, Colony and Foreign Legion.

    From 1941, the three braids for the insignia were reserved for units in Africa or created outside mainland France.

    Note: The unknown units of the French army of 1940: the battalions of Pyrenees Chasseurs (khaki wool, scarlet hunting horn insignia and number, 2 dark blue braids).

    Due to the end of the Spanish Civil War, the French army created mountain Chasseur battalions to protect the Pyrenean border in anticipation of a possible Spanish invasion, but also to manage the Spanish refugees who were flocking to France. Once the German offensive was launched and faced with the neutrality of Spain, these battalions were sent to fight on the eastern front as well as in the Alps.

    In photo (soon): 10th BCPyr of the 5th Pyrenees Chasseur demi-brigade. There were 10 battalions organized into 5 demi-brigades.
